In the USA, a Dewitt (New York) firefighter, Randy Griffin, has come up with a new approach to air packs. His design

is thinner, lighter and more flexible than bottles, which can make it easier to use in tight situations.
While his innovative pack holds the same volume of air as a tank, Griffin says it will last longer, as firefighters using them are less stressed. He is working with the US Department of Homeland Security to develop the apparatus.
